On this day, Jaws appeared in theaters

Skill + Do

Steven Spielberg says he was shocked that Jaws was such a huge hit and thought the shark looked dumb.

Jaws is a suspenseful and dramatic movie that is timeless. The shark’s attacks in the film are gruesome and brutal, reminding viewers of the inevitability of death. The film symbolizes the harsh reality of mortality, as characters and viewers alike are forced to confront their fear of death head-on.

Forget about the above film critic description, the movie is just plain scary. Its brilliance is how it plays on the fears of everyone. After all, who’s not afraid of sharks in the open water?

It’s the same with a life in sales, right?

The sharks are everyone you’re fighting: buyers, gatekeepers, competitors. Sometimes even a few folks inside your org.

What’s your choice? Give in and stay on the beach, or get in the water and learn to co-exist with the sharks?
