Assertive or aggressive?

Skill

Sharp elbows may work for Ms. Warren in politics, but hey, not so much in The Sales Life.

While you are rarely aggressive with buyers, you need to recognize and respect the line when you’re being assertive.

Excelling in sales means you’ll need to accept that you’ll sometimes push some buyers beyond their comfort zone. It happens.

But stay assertive. Also, stay focused on reading body language and reactions.

Yup….lots to focus on. You can do it.

Do

Today, work on your reading skills – your people reading skills.

Follow these tips:
1. Watch your customers’ physical reactions intently when interacting with them.

2. Stop pitching, have more conversations. And when the tough convos hit, slow down; it’s easier to read and react when you aren’t talking for five straight minutes! (Uh huh…time yourself.)

3. When you spot an opening…push. Ask the extra question. Challenge the reasoning. But not too hard.

Oomph

…and then there’s the risk of being obnoxious.

In this very amusing cold-calling parody from Key & Peele, you’ll watch how a crafty, manipulative seller turns the buyer into the aggressor.

Brilliant.

TOTALLY worth 3:27 of your life…
