Share your holiday stories

Skill

Did something story-worthy happen to you over the holidays? …something that you might want to share with your buyers?

Sharing a personal story or two with a buyer will help you connect on a human-to-human level, and of course, that’s always better than being stuck in seller-to-buyer mode.

Any selling day of the year is a good day to share a story, but today and this week are especially good, given your memory is sitting tall on a mountain of good holiday anecdotes.

Your stories don’t have to be long; two minutes of your dog throwing up eggnog on your baby niece is enough.

Do

You’re not the only one trying to get back to full speed this first week of the year…your buyers are slinking back into work mode, too. They’ll be slightly more relaxed during the first few weeks of January than the rest of the year.

There will be plenty of "…what did YOU do for the holidays?" in your buyer interactions this week – so be ready to share some of your best holiday yarns.

To prepare, package a few of your holiday memories into stories that share you with your buyers. "I went to Cabo…" isn’t enough. "I went to Cabo and our boat started leaking when we were out to sea fishing…" is more interesting.

Oomph

In this engaging TED Talk from filmmaker Andrew Stanton (Nemo, Wall-E), you’ll hear the punchline "…make them care."

And that’s a darn good reminder of what you’re trying to do with your customers. Stories bring out the care from you, and your customers.

Tell a story and make them care.

Quote of the day

Most people haven’t used their storytelling skills since they were 8 and wanted to persuade Dad to take them to the game.
