10/24/2024-On This Day: 40-hr workweek

Skill

Work must include joy and meaning, or else it might be time to hand it over to the bots. Being focused as a seller implies you enjoy the routine and can create fun along the way.

On this day in 1940, the 40-hour workweek went into effect under the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act. The law created the right to a minimum wage, time-and-a-half overtime pay, and prohibited minors’ employment.

Why is this important to you, workaholic sales pro?

Sellers have been working from their cars, diners and ball fields even before Covid. And while clouds and apps now exist to (supposedly) help your productivity, the focal point of your work is unchanged…

Meet with customers and develop revenue demand…no matter how long* it takes!

Do

A 40-hour work week is a concept for a sales driver like you…most of the time, it’s a dream.

Your chosen profession doesn’t operate in a binary way: you have to work hard and smart.

Whether this week is a 40 or a Whatever It Takes, keep that measured positive attitude you tote around with you and use it.

If it’s a 40, enjoy the fresh air and plan ahead…soon you’ll have some WIT weeks. That’s ok…you got this.

Oomph

Let the mercurial (yet always-interesting) Elon Musk help you think critically about the hard/smart debate on this celebratory day of the – ahem – 40-hr week.

What do you think about Elon’s recco that working 80-100 hours a week is what is needed to succeed?

Only you know how much time is needed to exceed your goals, but focus on efficiency too!

Quote of the day

"To be successful, all you have to do is work half-days. You can work the first twelve hours, or the second twelve hours." Don Shula
