10/29/2024-The dreaded “checking in” email

Published on

Skill

How would you react as a buyer if you got an email from a seller with the following…

"I’m checking in…"

Or, "I’m just following up…"

You probably wouldn’t open the note.

Emails that don’t present value or anything intriguing will be ignored by buyers 100% of the time. Besides, "I’m checking in…" is about you, not the customer.

To be perceived as a professional, you must communicate professionally. That means you must be thoughtful in everything you say, do, and write in your emails.

Do

Today, catch yourself before sending an email with phrases like those featured above.

You can do better.

How’s this instead?

"I’m sending you a link that will shed light on the issues we’ve been discussing – I’ll call you today at 5p to talk briefly about it. No worries if you’re busy, I’ll try you again tomorrow."

It’s specific and offers value. (They may not pick up the phone today at 5…but they might tomorrow!)

Send emails that help your prospects; don’t send emails that sound like what all the other reps write.

Oomph

At first, it’ll be hard to eliminate cliches and value-less phrases in your emails to buyers.

But if you reach that next level of courage, you’ll write more thoughtful and valuable notes to your buyers…and you’ll get higher interaction rates.

If the guy in this endearing and human YT short can conquer his fears of escalators, you, too, can reach the sales mountaintop by writing better, more direct, and more powerful emails.

Quote of the day

"Email, instant messaging, and cell phones give us fabulous communication ability, but because we live and work in our own little worlds, that communication is totally disorganized." Marilyn vos Savant
