The dreaded ”checking in” email

If you were a buyer, how would you react to this email header from a seller: ”I’m checking in…”?

Or…”Following up on…”

You wouldn’t open the note.

”Checking in” and ”following up” are the worst words a seller could say or write. (Your job as a seller is NOT to ”check in” or ”follow up.”)

Emails that don’t present value will be ignored by buyers 100% of the time.

To be perceived as a professional, you must communicate* professionally. Be thoughtful in everything you say, do, and write in your emails.

Today, catch yourself before sending an email with phrases like those featured above.

You can do better.

How’s this instead?

”Here’s insight on what we’ve been talking about re. XYZ – I’ll call you today at 5p to talk briefly about it. No worries if you’re busy, I’ll try you again tomorrow at 10a.”

It’s specific and offers value. They may not pick up the phone today at 5…but they might tomorrow!

At least, they’ll read your note.

At first, it’ll be hard to eliminate value-less phrases in your emails. But you’ll be rewarded with higher interaction rates when you reach that next level of courage.

When in doubt, cut 50% of your emails. Then cut another 50% after that!
