Skill

To be a top performer, study STUDS like Steph Curry. The engine for high performance is found in the preparation, practice, and repetition of the drills that need attention for game time.

Wardell Stephen Curry turns 36 today. (Maybe he’ll go for 36 in his next game Saturday night? …in the first half??)

There’s not much more to say about the man considered the best basketball shooter of all time other than to mention his superpower: he practices like no other.

The dude trains, and trains, and trains more! He once said, "I want to practice to the point where it’s almost uncomfortable how fast you shoot so that in the game, things kind of slow down."

Smart man. Committed man.

Do

Grab a buddy and have them fire questions at you about your product.

Speed up your practice so that your mind feels pressure, similar to what it’s like getting grilled by a client in a meeting.

When you’re done answering with short and VALUE-able responses, pivot to objections.

Same drill.

Have your buddy fire objections your way, and practice being calm and cool when dealing with them.

Spend time researching Steph’s practice and workout regimen, and it will – most certainly – make you tired. The routine is Hard (… with an intentional capital H.)

After learning about how he treats his body – through nutrition discipline and good sleep hygiene – take a look at his career stats and accolades to understand why.

To be the best, you have to put in the work.

Look at any of those in your office in the TOP 10%…they make it look easy, but you don’t see the work they put in when you’re not looking. They practice, study, learn, and sacrifice to be a top performer.

You know there are days Steph wouldn’t mind skipping a day or a practice routine, but he knows if he does that, he’ll open the door just a crack for his competitors to climb through.

Oomph

Steph’s pre-game warmups are legendary and known throughout the basketball world. Hundreds of fans arrive long before tip-off at every arena he plays to catch some of his mastery.

Notice how much fun Steph is having in this 2-minute clip of him practicing.

Just like you can imagine him playing on the court by his house in his youth, Steph is joyful about his preparation and work.

Do what you can to put fun into your practice, and you’ll learn more, too.

Quote of the day

“I can get better. I haven’t reached my ceiling yet on how well I can shoot the basketball.” Steph Curry
