Skill

Your manager has just invited you to a meeting with HR, which explains your weeks-long stomachache. You sensed right…you’re about to be PIP’d. (Arrrfff.)

Take a deep breath, your world is not ending. Actually, you’ve entered a crucial stage of your professional growth: you’re going to get an opportunity to learn what it means to fight.

And if you’re nowhere close to getting put on a PIP right now…GOOD! But note it’s important to learn how to fight through stormy weather. Fighting against odds is a superpower you’ll need to master.

Do

If you’re on a PIP, about to be PIP’ed, or curious about what you should do if it happens, make sure you get answers to these questions:

1. What specifically do you need to do to get un-PIP’ed?

2. How will the org support you in getting un-PIP’ed? (Request supplemental training and coaching in the areas where you need improvement.)

3. Who can help you develop your fight plan? ("Flight" is not an option.)

Even if you’ve fallen out of love with your company, product, or manager…fight! Don’t bail.

Oomph

While some are born with more fight in them than others, you’ll agree you’re a better fighter today than you were last year. …and so it will go.

Fighting through adversity is a learned skill – it’s the secret all sellers understand. Getting punched in the face makes you better.
