8/19/2025-My peer stole my commission

Skill
Did your mate really steal the credit on the account? …or are egos distorting the facts?
Who did what and who deserves what situations are common in B2B sales, but don’t let emotions take over and distort your focus.
IF it’s true, and you put in 80% of the work but only got, say, 50% of the commission credit, then you might have an argument that deserves a meeting with your manager.
Do
If you’re in a tiff with a peer about how much commission credit you will split, first take a breath and organize the facts.
That includes chronicling your specific work, how much (approximate) time you spent, and how much influence your labor had on the outcome. (Hard to estimate, but try.)
Next, reach out to your, ahem…friend and get on their schedule to talk about it. You haven’t yet earned the right to "approach the bench," i.e. go to your manager. You and your mate first need to agree on how to value your work and influence.
Oomph
Fighting over commissions is not even close to what it’s like to fight over Kobe beef burgers. Key & Peele prove that in this 4-minute backyard bar-b-cue scene.
Don’t be the one who shouts "I nailed it" at the summer barbecue when the burgers come off the grill perfectly.
Quote of the day
"I always thought that life was about standing your ground, no matter how strong the current was. But going with the flow isn’t so bad after all. As long as it takes you forward." Ai Yazawa
