The Usain Bolt selling approach

Skill

On this day in 1986, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt was born.

Usain won Gold medals in the 100 and 200-meter races in an unprecedented three straight Olympic Games (’08, ’12, and ’16). As such, Bolt is considered the greatest sprinter of all time.

Running fast helps in the sales game because time is your primary competitor. However, speed isn’t the only thing that differentiates champions. Champions win because they prepare more than everyone else.

Do

You won’t get faster sitting in the stands watching everyone else run. Today, appraise your sales muscle training regimen.

Which skills need your attention right now?

Presenting? Objection handling? Probing? Negotiating?

The moment you think you’ve mastered a skill is the moment you should practice it again. Skills atrophy unless you work them.

Oomph

Wanna watch Usain Bolt throw up?

Of course not.

But you do want to watch an authentic 3-minute slice of his workout routine.

Usain poignantly offers, "The work is behind the scenes… competition is the easy part."

Train and prepare like Usain. Push yourself. If that’s not enough, hire someone to push you.
