You’re having coffee with an acquaintance you used to work with, and the more you listen, the more you love what you’re hearing.
It hits you that it would be fantastic to have a steady diet of this person to help with job and career issues.
Ahhh, you’re ready for a mentor! Good.
Every seller in the TOP 10% has a mentor…probably many.
As you plot your move to build your team of mentors, start preparing your list of issues you’ll want help with. Mentors need to be guided.
Do
Today, contact someone in your network whom you think might be a good mentor and invite her/him to lunch. Mention that you need their thoughts on a few issues that you’re dealing with.
Then do it again…contact another individual who might meet the mentor profile for you. (They don’t need to know it’s a tryout for a mentoring relationship.)
Do their answers and reccos make sense to you? …is there value in what they say?
What about chemistry…how’s the rapport between you? Can you talk to this person openly?
