9/1/2025-Happy Labor Day

Skill

For many, Labor Day is the unofficial mark that summer is over. (Or, if you prefer, it’s the start of Are You Ready for Some Football?)

The idea for Labor Day was born from the unions of New York City, which hosted a parade to celebrate their members. The first parade ran from City Hall to Union Square in 1882 and was attended by an estimated 20,000 people. Get this: workers had to give up a day’s pay to attend. (Eeesh!)

Do

Today’s DO is actually a don’t DO….!

don’t work.

Instead, squeeze the summer out of this weekend and do something outlandishly fun. Ok….how about just fun?)

You know that starting tomorrow, the stretch run starts. So go have fun and forget about everything else.

Oomph

In 1894, President Cleveland signed into law this national holiday to be every first Monday in September.

In almost every other country, however, May 1 is the day of celebration for “work.”

This one-minute video is a great summary of how far societies have progressed in defining work and protecting workers.

Quote of the day

“Choose a job you love, and you‘ll never have to work a day in your life.” Confucius
