Your ’27 quota is being set right now
Skill

Don't sit back and wait for your quota

Your manager will soon be cementing your 2027 quota. If you want a voice in that number, now is the time to speak up.

Yes, quotas always go up, but managers have discretion over how they distribute the numbers.

Don't negotiate based on how hard this year is. Your best argument is what your accounts, territory, and pipeline can realistically produce next year. If relief is something that is justified, the your presentation of facts will show it.

You can't negotiate the number after it's been handed to you. Get involved while it's still being built.

It's about homework and prep…again

Today, get on your manager's calendar to discuss how s/he is thinking about your '27 quota. Do your homework beforehand…

1. Key accounts: What will each realistically produce in '27?

2. New business: What are your projections?

3. Assumptions: Just as in math class, show your work!

4. Commission record: Present your last two or three years of earnings…if it supports your argument for relief.

Bring facts and evidence. "I'm a hard worker" and "I got slaughtered this year" aren't valid negotiating positions.

Everything is negotiable

As you'll see in this fun, and funny 1-minute clip from a bygone sitcom, everything is negotiable.

So…get in there and negotiate.

At a minimum, you and your manager will have an open, honest business discussion. At best, you may get some quota relief.
